Katsuhiro Otomo 大友 克洋 (born 1954) Japanese Artist.
Otomo Katsuhiro is the manga reference! Why? Because, one day in 1982, he created a masterpiece named Akira. I think I was 12 when I first saw the movie in French TV. At that point I was getting to enter a new world both dark and trash. Suddenly I was evolving with this idea of Japan: brilliant, violent, mechanical, magic.
About Akira :
Japan is a hybrid space, a postmodern place. The cities are “constructions of the high capitalist era but are at the same time spaces brimming with the nostalgia particular to ruins”. According to the essay Multiple Modernities, we are watching this world wiped out by the atomic bombe during World War II. Akira reflects how people were actually struck by this experience, and how the modern area is dealing with economic resurgence and issues relating to over-crowding.
