Zhang Kechun 张克纯 (born 1980) Chinese Artist
The amazing story of those pictures: testimony of the extinction of the life near the Yellow River. Zhang Kechun is a witness of his time; China’s big changes, hustle by capitalism strength. ( See also the Sze Tsung Leong serie about China)
This strange vision you have when you are close to something very important, I experiment it in the 3 Gorges Dam where I had the opportunity to travel along in 2007. You are looking around and you know that the landscape is going to be burrowed, that people will be displaced, and the relief will be altered forever.
About Yellow River
As temperatures and human pressures have increased in China’s mountainous west over the past decade, the headwaters of two major river arteries, the Yellow and the Yangtze, are drying up at an alarming rate. The Chinese government has poured in money and other resources in an attempt to reverse or mitigate this trend, but observers remain pessimistic about finding a long-term cure.
The Yellow River faces an even more severe water shortage at its source. About 3,000 of 4,077 lakes in Maduo County, the first county through which the Yellow flows, have disappeared completely, depriving nearly 600 households, 3,000 people, and 119,000 cattle of easy access to water.
