Stéphane Couturier (born 1957) French Artist
Couturier is known by general public thanks to his series about Renault factory which he began in the middle of 90’. First he was using argentic then he started to experiment the fusion of two scanned images for the Toyota series “Melting Point”. The ‘molten’ picture reveals a lot of details from assembly factory which faithfully describes the swarming world rich in colors of automobile workers.
The work Monuments (taking place mostly in Seoul) is very close of the one by Michael Wolf on Hong Kong, talking about immensity of concrete through new cities. It’s is difficult to know who is the precursor of this kind of pictures, or who is influenced by whom given that both the authors are the same generation, and given that series had dawn in the same period. Or maybe this idea broke out from both minds at the exact same time.
