Roy Lichtenstein (born 1923) American Artist
He was one of the most popular artist from the pop art movement, but he was most of all a real technician of art. He likes so much the technical part of art that he made his own work a quest of perfection.
He was certainly a pop artist, but for me, he only was on the period of the 60’. Apart from that, he was constantly in research of himself through the work of the others. He has admired a lot of European artists, and because of his obsession of Picasso or Mondrian, he finally found himself in the middle of the 40’. After imitation and reproduction, then comes the time of the realistic black and white, then the comic’s part which was bringing him into focus.
But when I can see his entire work during the decades, I could say that he was always ahead of its time. He actually had ten years ahead. And when you have a look on his latest works, very much influenced by Chinese paintings, it could be 2010 fresh work, but it dates back to 97’.
