Sergei Prokoudine (Procoudine) Gorsky (1863-1944) Russian Artist
Born 150 years ago, Procoudine Gorsky, displayed an early interest for science and technology, he began studying physics and mathematics in Saint Petersbourg, and then photography in 1898. He was immediately catch by the different technics of colour photography, and got closer to Adolf Miethe (creator of Three-colour process).
At the same time Procoudine started to travel all over ancient empire of Russia, passionate about the old frontier and the people living in his land. He started to focus on explore all the territory in order to take as many photography as possible, using the three-colour process (improved and largely used by himself).
He was then send in mission for the Tsar Nicholas II through the empire to catch every meter of Russia… From 1909 to 1915 he has produced near 3500 photography, whose only 1900 safely leave the country after the revolution.
Today, we have the opportunity to meet the ancient Russia through those spectacular photography, released by one of the great explorer of the last century.
